Two hard hitting bantamweights look to cement a title shot as Tonya Evinger takes on Ediane Gomes.
The Fighters:
Tonya Evinger (13-5): Evinger has looked like a new fighter since moving back to Missouri. The eight year vet has won four straight including her InvictaFC debut over Sarah D’Alelio.
Ediane Gomes (10-2): With her only losses to Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes, Gomes will make her debut at 135 coming off four straight wins including a decision over Leslie Smith. She trains at American Top Team with TUF 20’s Tecia Torres, and World Series of Fighting champion Jessica Aguilar.
The Storyline:
Evinger is the only top 15 bantamweight not signed to the UFC and she really doesn’t care either way. The vacant InvictaFC 135 title is something she is focused on and a win will put her there.
After begging for a fight, Gomes decided to drop to the much deeper 135 division. If she is successful, she will turn some heads and gain a spot at the belt if the UFC doesn’t sign her first.
What to expect:
Gomes’s drop to 135 is a critical part of what will happen in the fight. Gomes’s size could help her in terms of strength, but may be tired due to the drop in weight.
Evinger wants to take it to the ground and use her wrestling to smoother Gomes.
This will go to a decision with Gomes edging out in the odds.
