Meanwhile in Brazil, MMA Super Heroes started two 4 women tournament matches to crown news strawweight and flyweight champs.
In one flyweight semi-finals, Juliana Werner Aguiar defeated Vanessa Melo by unanimous decision. It was a clinch battle in round one, with Aguiar getting the head and arm takedown later in the round. Aguiar would take it to the ground on the last two rounds, dominating with control and submission attempts. The judges gave all three rounds to Aguiar (now 6-3), who extends her win streak to four.
In the other semi-final, Kalindra Faria defeated Carina Damm by a submission in the opening stanza. This was a rematch of their 2009 match, which Damm won by TKO. Damm came in over weight for the bout, with Faria taking 20% of Damm’s purse. Faria was able to slap an armbar on Damm and got the tap at 2:05 of round 1, but Faira didn’t release right away. Damm would punch Faira in the face post fight.
Aguiar and Faria (now 11-3) will meet in the finals at a yet to be determined date.
In the strawweight semi-final, Hérica Tibúrcio upset Kinberly Novaes by arm bar at 3:55 of round 3. Tiburcio weather an early storm and some submission attempts by Novaes and gain some momentum towards the end of round two. Tiburcio would gain top position and then the armbar to win in the third round. This would snap a two fight losing streak by Tiburcio and breaks Novaes’s six fight win streak.
Tiburcio (now 6-2) will face the winner of Vanessa Gumares versus Camilla Lima at MMA Heroes’ September 7 in Brazil.
