One of the first all female fight promotions have announced a 60kg/132 pound one night tournament for September 28.
Princesses of Pain has brought some of the best Muay Thai and MMA action to New Zealand for over 6 years. With the current push for 135ers in the UFC, promoter Belinda Dunne wants to give the fighters of her home country some exposure to the international market.
“Women’s MMA has taken a massive turn here in New Zealand and the skill level and amount of participants is climbing fast. This I believe is in part because the women have their own league and a regular place to fight.”
Dunne is hoping the tournament will bring more exposure to her fighters, and is working on making a move to get them to fight in the Asian markets.
The fight pairings were announced Tuesday:
- Charlene Watt vs. Serina Cole
- Desiree Ann Maaka vs. Tara Finderup
- Tairi Ford vs. Michelle Gillgren
- Dawn Chalmers vs. Ursula Marshall
The semi-finals and finals will happen on the same night. They will also will have some Muay Thai bouts on the card.
The evengt isn’t expected to be streamed, but we will have full coverage of the fights on our twitter @WombatSports.
